Office of the Superintendent

Dear Liberty Union HS District Community,

As we head into fall break and reflect on the completion of the first quarter of the school year, it is a good time to celebrate our accomplishments and express our gratitude for the incredible support of our community. Together, we continue to build a legacy of excellence, pride and unity that defines the Liberty Union HS District.

During the past few weeks, our schools came alive with the energy and excitement of Homecoming. Each campus celebrated with lively parades and spirited football games, showcasing the creativity of our students and the dedication of our staff. The floats were fun, school spirit was contagious, and it was wonderful seeing everyone come together. A special thank you goes out to the many staff members and students who devote countless hours to making Homecoming a cherished tradition. We are also deeply grateful to our community members who generously provided flatbed trucks, drove parade vehicles, and cheered from the sidelines. A special “thank you” to the Patriot Jet Team for their spectacular flyover of the Heritage High School stadium prior to the football game.

Academically, we are thrilled to share exciting news about our students’ performance on Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Across our three comprehensive high schools, the number of AP tests taken increased by an average of 20%. Even more impressive, our pass rates rose significantly:

  • Freedom High School: up 9% to 61%
  • Heritage High School: up 8% to 87%
  • Liberty High School: up 5% to 75%

These results reflect the hard work and tenacity of our students, and the dedicated commitment of our teachers. We are proud of this achievement and grateful for the academic excellence it represents.

We continue to focus on mathematics and partner with a math consultant from Solution Tree. During this time, our instructional coaches and math departments are able to explore strategies and incorporate new instructional methods that promote differentiation, engage students, and challenge their thinking.

Another area of celebration is student attendance. Compared to this time last year, we have seen a decrease in both tardiness and truancy. In addition, we have taken meaningful steps toward

restorative practices by launching our first Youth Court of the year which is an initiative that provides alternatives to suspension and fosters accountability, growth and leadership among our students.

As we continue to grow and improve, your voice remains essential. You should have received a parent survey via email and/or text. We’ll be conducting these surveys twice a year, and your feedback will help guide our efforts to better serve our students and families.

Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. Together, we honor the past, celebrate the present and shape the future of Liberty Union High School District. We wish you a restful and joyful fall break.

Sincerely,

Denise Rugani
