Dear Liberty Union HS District Community,
As we approach Winter Break, it is hard to believe the second quarter is already coming to a close. This season offers a perfect opportunity to reflect on what we have accomplished together and to express gratitude to our dedicated school and district staff. Every day, they work to support student success, whether in the classroom, through extracurricular activities, providing safe transportation and nutritious meals, maintaining beautiful campuses, or ensuring our district remains fiscally strong and well-managed.
Our school community has much to celebrate. Our academic performance continued to rise with CAASPP scores increasing about 2% in English and Math, bringing district averages to 61.4% and 27%, respectively. While we are proud of this progress, we remain committed to strengthening math achievement. To support this effort, we have continued our partnership with a math consultant from Solution Tree and implemented Edia, a personalized intervention tool that families report is making a positive impact by addressing individual student needs.
This quarter also marked our 2nd annual District Trade Union Night, where more than 30 trades, from Paris Beauty College to plumbers and steamfitter unions to public service, connected with more than 500 students and families sharing insights and even conducting interviews. Events like these strengthen the bridge between education and opportunity, preparing students for success beyond graduation.
Attendance improved as well, with rates rising 1% from last year to 94%. Our goal remains 95%, and we are taking steps to get there. With the introduction of ParentSquare, families now receive text notifications when a student is absent and can easily report the reason through a secure link. This streamlined communication fosters accountability and ensures students receive the support they need to achieve their potential.
Finally, we are nearing completion of the last major Measure U Bond project, the Environmental Center at Heritage High School. This beautiful space features a koi pond, garden areas, and interactive learning zones designed to inspire curiosity and hands-on exploration for years to come.
As we close out this quarter, I want to thank each of you for your collaboration and commitment to student success. I wish you a joyful and restful Winter Break surrounded by family and friends and an exciting new year as we continue building a legacy of excellence for our students and community.
Sincerely,
Denise Rugani
